John A. Hopps 1919 - 1998 (pacemaker)


Dr. John A. Hopps , qui a préféré s'appeler 'Jack', est le pére de la technologie biomédicale au Canada et un scientifique dont le travail a amélioré les vies des millions de personnes autour du monde.
Pendant la moitié d'un siécle il a été un chef dans l'application de la technologie médicale en science et a laissé un legs impressionnant de dispositifs et d' instruments qui ont aidé beaucoup de personnes malades .
Sa premiére recherche a été accentué par l'invention du premier stimulateur cardiaque du monde, qu'il a développé en collaboration avec Dr. W.G. Bigelow et Dr. J.C. Calahan, à l'institut de Banting à Toronto.

John A. Hopps (who preferred to be called 'Jack'),is the Father of Biomedical Engineering in Canada and a scientist whose work has improved the lives of millions of people around the world. He was a leader in the medical application of engineering science for almost half a century and has left an impressive legacy of devices and instruments that have helped people with many types of disabilities.
His early research was highlighted by the invention of the world's first cardiac pacemaker, which he developed in collaboration with Dr. W.G. Bigelow and Dr. J.C. Calahan, at the Banting Institute in Toronto
